Evolution vs Revolution…

2016-03-07_10-24-36.pngThe concept of evolution vs revolution is an interesting one to me. It gets me to thinking and that is always good; thinking for myself that is. Of course revolution is often a quick thing if enough people support it. It can happen seemingly overnight, or like our American Revolution in four years or so.

But the problem with revolution is that it often causes havoc when it happens. Something is quickly taken down and there is really nothing around to replace it. That is primarily why the Arab Spring failed a few years ago.  People were extremely upset but really had no solution in place to affect change. As a result turmoil was the result.  The other major problem with most revolutions are that they result in violence, sometimes extreme violence!

You could say that what is happening in our 2016 political system right now is a revolution especially on the GOP side. People are rejecting the establishment players for outsiders. They want change now! They are tired of the status quo and are willing to take whatever chances they need to see better days for themselves now. They simply cannot wait..

Evolution on the other hand is often extremely slow at least for many of us.  We  just don’t want to endure the snail’s pace of evolution.  Given enough time change will naturally occur if there is unrest.

The approach that President Obama took with Iran is an evolutionary process. We introduce some incentives to change behavior and eventually the people will do the rest.  Iran is currently a theocracy where the supreme leader has almost total control of the country, but that is changing. The most recent election, if you want to even call it that, resulted in several “moderates” being elected. The more voices of even meager dissent that happens will change things.  It may take years for the establishment to change but it eventually will take place from within.

Throughout my life I have always been an impatient person. Change just occurs too slowly for me. I want it now!  But through years of experience I am learning that patience is a virtue so to speak. Amazing, even to me, I am learning that in most cases evolution is preferable to revolution. Change within is almost always better then destroying things and the “hoping” that something better will replace it.

This is why I have been so upset with what is happening in our current political processes. I simply don’t see any good coming from tearing our current system down  as Mr. Trump or Cruze propose. Things need to change but I recognize that change, real change, takes time and intelligence to happen. Will saner minds rule in November. Sadly that is not clear right now.  We just might have a revolution with no one around capable of leading us out of it…
